Portrait of a Dutch child 1902
Half portrait of a child in side view from the right, face turned towards the viewer. The little girl is wearing a blue dress, on her head a white hood, her hair is tied in the back with long red ribbons.
Watercolor on paper, dimensions unknown, but likely in small format.
Signature: John Quincy Ɑdams (barely legible).

This probably small format watercolor study appeared recently in the internet trade and was labeled "Dutch Girl". It is one of the few surviving watercolors by Adams and is of particular appeal due to the coloring (especially the background heightening). Unfortunately, only a blurred image was available, making the signature virtually unreadable. But the attribution to John Quincy Adams made by the seller can be considered certain.
Offered on internet trading platform picbon June 2020.
