Upper body portrait, seated in a high chair. The sitter wears a black tailcoat, white shirt with bow tie, white vest and a wide ribbon of an unknown decoration. He wears a moustache, on the nose a nose-pincher with oval glasses. His left hand holds his chin, in his right hand a pair of white gloves. Next to the sitter a writing table with decorative objects.

Dr. Paul Freiherr Gautsch von Frankenthurn (26. 2.1851 Vienna to 20. 4.1918 Vienna).
Graduate and long-time director of the Theresian Academy (Theresianum), many times minister, three times prime minister. See his entry in OeBL.

Final version of the portrait study (see its seperate catalogue entry), closely following it, but adding more detail. Adams likely exhibited this final version in the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1913 (EL 58 1913/14 #1363). The portrait was comissioned by the Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt Vienna and left it at an unknown date. Since then the portrait has been lost.
