Spring I ca. 1900-1905

Allegory of spring. Half portrait of a girl in side view looking to the right, the dark hair pinned up, a light cloth wrapped around the torso, the shoulders bare, the hands placed together as if in prayer. In the background a tree with blossoms on its branches, behind it a suggested mountain range.

An early work of the artist, which shows clear Jugendstil influences. Motif, execution and relatively small format indicate a work intended for quick sale. The work has been lost since its auction at the Vienna Dorotheum on 31.10.1913 lot#386.
